I also design and make a range of one-off, hand-painted wooden cupboards.

I try to use recycled timber, often using old pallets or driftwood and bringing out the grain of the wood with a wire brush. The carpentry is crude but I feel reflects the character of the timber.
Some are commissioned to reflect the interests of individual people, this one for example is based on Dylan Thomas's heron priested shore in West Wales. Sometimes they will include figurative elements but often they are abstract designs utilising multi-layered colours and distressed effects
Some grow out of the individual section of wood and my response to it.
Some are practical, this one is built to house a CD collection and incorporates a CD divider.
Some are strange shapes but still manage to be functional.

This one features small twin cupboards with ceramic tiles, linked by a shelf which also functions as a key holder

This was a small bathroom cupboard for a seaside location

This was designed to match a strongly coloured piece of furniture
I have also incorporated mirrors and other practical elements in them but essentially they are individual 'characters' that just take on a life of their own!
