Paintings

My paintings reflect my love of all things natural, landscape, gardens, textures and the pattern of light.

The form and colour of plants and flowers has inspired me to produce these images.

My paintings include other aspects of nature such as animals and birds but I don't try to recreate the images that inspired me, rather I try to use colour and form to express my reactions to it. Sometimes the pattern on a flower or a particular line will get extended into the background or I'll get more interested in the negative shapes, e.g. the spaces between the branches of a tree. The final images may still relate to the object or place but they have a life of their own, a unique image that only exists on the paper in front of me.

Some images are of my local landscapes and wildlife in and around Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

I enjoy walking on the Preseli hills, along the coastal footpaths or through woodland where the light is always changing according to the season, the time of day or the weather.

Images of Spain are taking my paintings in a new direction. This is a view of the field patterns around Ronda in Andalucia.

This image explores the theme of the elements.

The landscapes of Spain are very different from my Welsh landscapes and are full of different colours and different qualities of light.
